Alfalfa hay is high in protein and rich in nutrients, making it an excellent forage for high-producing dairy cows, beef cattle, horses, goats, and many other farm animals. Alfalfa is highly digestible and contains a higher RFV than most other grasses. It typically contains higher protein, more cell solubles, less cellulose, and hemicellulose which make alfalfa hay an important feed due to its higher energy and digestible nutrients than other grasses.
Alfalfa is a perennial crop, which means it will continue to grow for several years after planting. Alfalfa crops are planted in the spring or fall and can be harvested all year depending on the area where the crop is grown. Alfalfa is an important legume to crop rotation as it adds nitrogen to soil and improves soil structure for future crops. The nodules on the alfalfa roots convert nitrogen gas from the air to usable nitrogen for the alfalfa plants, this process is nitrogen fixation.
All of ZHI’s alfalfa hay is Non-GMO and contains no preservatives. We screen all of our alfalfa stacks for Roundup Ready® characteristics, and reject all positive stacks. ZHI is a registered processor for shipments to China.
